revenge recapping: justice

Previously on Revenge: Doubt

The weather timing on this show is weird to me. I know it’s a little unrealistic to assume a show is going to mirror the season you’re currently experiencing, but its really weird to watch the characters on a show bundle up and light fires when I’m praying for the weather to warm up slightly. But still we continue to watch.

Victoria at the Trial

It’s December now and the trial has begun. The prosecution has an air tight case and it’s not looking good for Daniel. The defense has decided to rely heavily on Emily’s testimony. She will paint Daniel as a sympathetic character and help to plant doubt in the juror’s minds. Everyone knows it won’t be enough. So when the lawyer pinpoints a juror who has already made up his mind, Victoria sends her thug Lee to threaten the woman.

Jack is back in town after a fruitless search for Amanda which was dictated by Nolan and friends. With Jack comes the bloody sweatshirt, which as everyone points out he was stupid enough to keep. Jack’s naiveté in believing that he wouldn’t be pinned for the murder if he presents the sweatshirt to the police reveals that he is much more stupid than I thought. Emily is not so stupid though and she continues to protect him from the Grayson’s grasp by stealing the sweatshirt and planting it in Lee’s car. Later Lee is arrested. He uses his one phone call to call Victoria and threaten her. She turns to Conrad for help. Turns out he has some thugs too, and they’re much more professional than Victoria’s.

Daniel, still on lockdown, is beginning to go a little crazy. He admits to shooting Tyler in cold blood and not for self defense. He spies on Emily while drinking bourbon. He sees Jack come and go. And later watches Emily leave the house and ignores a phone call from him. This drives him to leave house arrest and go to Emily’s house to wait for her. She arrives home, Daniel yells and pushes her. Then the cops show up and take Daniels back to Rikers. As Daniel writes an apology letter to Emily that sounds a bit like a suicide note. Daniel’s lawyer dramatically walks through the prison and we wonder what he is going to find. Not gonna lie my hands were over my mouth. But it turns out the sneakers hanging in midair belonged to Lee.

Emily at the trial

Emily had setup microphones in the Grayson’s house so she could anticipate their every move during the trial. She overhears Conrad arranging the hit on Lee and discovers a new twist in the plot. Her father didn’t die in a prison fight. He was murdered by the Grayson’s.

Quotes

Victoria: “You’re going to catch your death.”
Daniel: “That seems inevitable.”

Nolan: “Sorry to interrupt your regularly scheduled plotting.”
Emily: “When the system fails us, we must go out and seek our own justice.”

Kristen is a confused young adult who sometimes thinks TV shows are actually her life. Wouldn’t that be cool? Unless she was a victim on Dexter, or a deranged privileged teenager on gossip girl, or a wolf on teen wolf, or Liz Lemon! Never mind. It wouldn’t be cool. Kristen is a young adult.
