Cat

Liz and Criss are spring cleaning and Criss stumbles across the box of adoption information. Liz explains it was something she was considering a few years back, but ultimately she decided against it. She finds a Princess Leia costume in the adoption box and gives it to Jack. With Criss and Liz really beginning to nest, Jack can’t help setting up Liz on one last date. Liz initially says no, but decides to go anyway so she can tell Jack he was wrong.

Kevin, Liz’s date, turns out to be terrible, but his daughter Cat, is awesome. Criss interrupts the date because although he approved the date, he suddenly became jealous and felt the need to fight the man for Liz. She tells him not to bother because Kevin is terrible. The two sit down and enjoy a lovely time with Cat, which brings them both to the same conclusion: Liz should be a mom.

Torture couch

Kouchtown will begin selling the first 10,000 of its couches. The prototype is amazing, Liz especially likes that the fabric is drool absorbent. Even the commercial powerful boasts about the American made couches but in reality the American factory workers, including Stewart Der (played by the hilarious Bobby Moynihan of Saturday Night Live), know nothing about engineering and the result is a couch that’s more like a torture device. Jack just needs to find a market that could use a torturous couch. His target: the US government.

paul, jenna, tracy

Jenna is on a quest to get Paul back and everyone knows the best way to get someone back is to fake a break down. She enlists Tracy’s help and the two build up to her big break down moment: jumping through the glass on The Today Show. After which she ends up in the hospital awaiting visits from her old lovers including, David Blaine, her high school gym teacher, Frank and spider infested flowers from Mickey Rourke. Paul doesn’t show. Tracy tells Jenna he thinks she had a real break down and Jenna knows its because she made a mistake letting Paul go but….Paul is there, dressed as a red headed nurse. They have reunited.

Best/Funniest Moments

  • Criss and Liz playacting a porno.
  • Jack trying to endure the torturous couch.
  • CIA using the couch to torture a Korean man.

Quotes

Spokesman: When did gum get so soft you sons of bitches?

Tracy: Jenna I’ve been thinking.
Jenna: Why? You’re famous.

Criss: Sent from one of my four iPads? This guy sounds amazing.

30 rock recapping: the shower principle

Previously on 30 Rock: Kidnapped by Danger

Liz consulting her diary

It’s tax season again, which means another year has gone by. While chatting with her accountant, Liz has a sudden revelation that nothing in her life ever changes. Last year she started to keep a journal, so in an effort to break the cycle she returns to her journal and is ready for everything that will happen. She interrupts and subdues Jenna before she starts freaking out. Last year Tracy forgot to do his taxes and on April 14 he started freaking out. So Liz reminded him to do his taxes, which lead to him having to go to Alaska for a side project. Her efforts to break the cycle are futile. Tracy still ends up in some crazy scheme to pay his taxes. Jenna still freaks out because someone is trying to sabotage her. But in the end Liz has one moment that has never happened before, when Jack admits that he needs her around.

Hazel and Jenna

Jenna, who isn’t freaking out at Liz, is worried about the curse of Macbeth. Any scene, skit, or theater production of Macbeth is apparently cursed so Jenna refuses to do it. Liz has Cerie do it, but when Cerie starts getting a lot of attention Jenna nobly steps back in. But then a light almost falls on her, her heel breaks, and a chair collapses when she sits in it. She thinks its the curse but Hazel confesses that its been her all along. She wants to be Liz’s best friend and she needs Jenna out of the picture. Silly Hazel, doesn’t she know Jenna will always be the craziest bitch at TGS. She can’t be out crazied.

Jack's Revelation

Jack, as we all know, has been frustrated with his role at Kabletown and the lack of growth it provides. When Hank Hooper makes the announcement that Kabletown turned  a large profit which they will be using to pay the shareholder’s dividends. Jack hates to see a profit wasted like that so he is using the shower principle to have a moment of genius. By distracting his brain with another task he hopes to find the perfect idea to pitch. Liz suggests that he meditate, but Jack thinks meditation is stupid. In a moment of desperation he tries it anyway and has his aha moment. Jack suggests that since they already contribute greatly to the relaxing experience of Americans with phone, internet, and cable services, that they start to make couches too. Hank agrees and Jack gets his opportunity for growth.

Best/Funniest Moments

  • Liz’s meditation session.
  • The guys putting the healthy food on the top shelf.
  • Hazel trying to sabotage Jenna.
  • Jack shooting the rats.

Quotes

Jack: “I once pants-ed Deepak Chopra while Craig T. Nelson taped it. I don’t meditate.”

Hazel: “Eyes down here, boys. I have breasts, you know?”

Liz: “I started eating the onion part of my onion rings.”
Jenna: “I don’t need any more bad luck. Do you know how many mirrors I’ve smashed because I thought it was a blonde woman mocking me?”

30 rock recapping: kidnapped by danger

Previously on 30 Rock: Grandmentor

Kidnapped by Danger poster

Jack’s TV movie is moving forward and Liz has to two days to write it. She succeeds but tells the story much differently than Jack expected. She actually tells the whole truth, not just the part about Jack and Avery. Liz includes Jack’s inability to choose between Avery and Nancy. Jack wants her to rewrite it and as the two fight about it Avery’s mom Diana shows up. Sensing the sexual tension Liz reverts back to a role she plays well…The Blocker. Liz’s blocking works and to keep them further apart Liz encourages Diana to date the man (Billy Baldwin, just one of the many Baldwin brothers) who will play Jack in the TV movie. Though Jack may not like the pairing, he appreciates the effort Liz is making to keep the two from inappropriately sleeping together.

Weird Al

Jenna has written a beautiful song for the TV movie which she expects to get nominated for an Emmy. That is until she sees the Weird Al version. She wants to sue him but Tracy warns her it’s a bad idea. He suggests that the two of them write a song that Weird Al can’t parody. They collaborate and come up with a song about what kind of food gives Jenna gas. Weird Al doesn’t parody it, he normalizes it. In a way Tracy and Jenna succeeded. Sort of.

KEnneth and Jack

Kenneth, who quit his job to save Tracy, is now looking to be rehired. With nothing at TGS available he becomes a janitor. Throughout the day he keeps a cheerful face and goes about his business. When Jack asks him how he keeps just a sunny outlook Kenneth tell him that he lies to himself. Kenneth might be losing his grip which reminds me of a quote Jack said in season 1 episode 3 “Blind Date”. Jack says, as Kenneth rides down the hall on his bicycle, “In five years we’ll all either be working for him or be dead by his hand.” We’ll see Jack, we’ll see.

Best/Funniest Moments

  • Flashbacks of Liz as The Blocker
  • Billy Baldwin as a pot smoking actor who transforms into conservative Jack
  • Kenneth confessing he lies to himself
  • Jenna’s song about farts

Quotes

Diana: “Oh, you’re still here.”
Liz: “That’s what they all say.”

Jenna: “He reversed the parody. He normal Al’d us.”

Kenneth: “I lie to myself every morning when I wake up. I don’t know how much longer I can do it.”

30 rock recapping: grandmentor

Previously on 30 Rock: St. Patricks Day

Liz and Hazel

Liz has taken on Hazel (the hilarious Kristen Schaal) as a mentee, making Jack and grandmentor and he couldn’t be prouder. Hazel’s a little insane and Liz blinded by the love she has for her mentee doesn’t always see it. So she encourages things she probably shouldn’t, like telling Hazel not to listen to Kenneth when it come to Tracy. This leads to Hazel letting Tracy do whatever he wants, which is clearly not a good idea. The more Kenneth tries to interfere and help get Tracy back on track the more Hazel pushes him away. Liz does encourage Hazel to break up with her boyfriend Rosmig, but Hazel refuses. This, Jack informs Liz, is when she has to let Hazel fail in order to learn a lesson. Liz doesn’t agree, but accidentally lets Hazel fail anyway. Kenneth in order to get Tracy back on his meds does the only thing possible. He quits his job and enters the TGS Walk-On contest. While on stage and camera he brings Tracy back to reality. It’s an “awww” moment….kind of.

Jenna as Avery

Jack is unsettled by the lack of attention Avery’s predicament has been getting lately. To bring her back into the spotlight he is going to talk to Matt Lauer about the issue. Right before he is about to go on there is a mine explosion in China and all the miners, who were babies, need to be saved by puppies because they’re the only ones small enough to make it in. Jack’s interview is cancelled. Jenna suggests he produce a TV movie about Avery, that would  certainly get her back in the spotlight. Jack agree and begins casting. Jenna wants to play Avery but Jack won’t let her. She tries to trick him by showing up to his office, when it’s dark, and acting like Avery. Jack sees right through her trick, but also appreciates her ruthless pursuit of the role. The part is hers.

JAck, Liz, HAzel

Best/Funniest Moment

  • Pretty much any scene with Hazel
  • Tracy freaking out about how this is a show within a show
  • The Grandmentor, Mentor, Mentee group hug at the end

Quotes

Hazel: “What’s your problem?”
Kenneth: “Oh my well, my parents were technically brothers…”

Liz: “Do not write another sketch with Krang from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. No one knows who Krang is. It would be a waste of time to talk about Krang on television.”

Tracy: “My real name is Tracy Morgan!”

30 rock recapping: the tuxedo begins

Previously on 30 Rock: Hey Baby, What’s Wrong?

Jack getting mugged

Liz and Jack are late for work. Liz because people no longer follow the rules for getting on and off the subway and Jack because he had to get out of his cab and walk. Liz argues that it’s because New York is overrated. Jack thinks its a testament to man’s triumph. While Liz is telling him about the Real Housewives of New York recap, Jack is mugged.

Liz thinks this proves her argument about New York, Jack thinks this is the beginning of a class war. Jack tries to enlist the help of his P.I. but quickly realizes that his P.I. is one of them. So Jack must take matters into his own hands. Liz develops her own form of dealing with her city woes. She acts or has become the crazy lady on the subway.

Paul and Jenna

Paul has returned from his cruise and instead of ravishing each other, as per usual, they fell asleep after a sexless night. So unlike them, that they had to make it into a fetish called normaling. They act out their new fetish by shopping at Bed Bath and Beyond. When their co-workers insist that their just being a couple, they panic but decide they’ll put their relationship to the test.

Liz gone crazy

Jack is afraid to leave his office and Liz is riding the crazy train full speed ahead. In a scene reminiscent of the Dark Knight, Liz and Jack as the Joker and Batman circle each other and justify their choices. Then as Liz is going to the movies to clear out the theater she learns she’s forgotten her wallet. As Jack is trying to overcome his fear, Liz asks him for $20. Since she’s dressed as a crazy lady, Jack obviously freaks out and throws her into a pile of trash. Jack has conquered his fear and Liz has realized that acting like a crazy person isn’t productive.

Best/Funniest Moments

  • Paul and Jenna shopping in Bed Bath and Beyond
  • Jack and Liz on the rooftop

Quotes

Tracy: “I’m gonna say to you what I say to all my sharks right before they die: Let’s go outside.”

Jack: “Liddy is at a baby leadership conference this weekend, the timing is perfect.”

Stranger: “Say, where does a young prostitute get started in this town?”
