Previously on Modern Family: Virgin Territory

Phil loves Leap Day. Gloria doesn’t understand Leap Day. Cam’s birthday is leap day and Mitchell needs to plan an awesome birthday party. Cam doesn’t trust Mitchell’s planning skills, but he needn’t worry. Mitchell won’t make a mistake like the last birthday. So he’s throwing a Wizard of Oz themed birthday party, but he remembers a little too late about the tornado that a tornado just hit his hometown. And changes the plans to a boat party.

The Dunphy’s have plans to go trapezing until Phil realizes what time of the month it is. He also gets confirmation of the horrible rumor that women can sync cycles, when both of his daughters also seem to be grappling with heightened emotions. He, Manny and Luke develop a plan to get the women to stay home. Claire of course catches onto the manipulation and Phil’s plan backfires. Eventually he is confronted by three angry women who are “monsterating”. Oh the HORROR!

Gloria and Jay go to a sports bar to watch a soccer game between Colombia and the Netherlands. Gloria gets into an argument with a Netherlands fan and when Jay steps in she expects a fight to break out. It doesn’t though and she can’t conceal her disappointment in and hostility towards Jay. Later she realizes that she loves Jay’s calmness because it balances her out. And when Jay gets into an almost altercation with the boat captain, Gloria stops him from getting to mad, but punches the boat captain in the face.

Cam’s party doesn’t end up being what he hoped. He learns that everything was pulled together at the last minute which naturally upsets him. But when Mitchell explains everything to him it doesn’t calm Cam. That’s when Mitchell realizes that Cam was worried about turning forty, not the success of the birthday party. So Mitchell gives Cam and excellent tenth birthday party and takes him to the amusement park. And Haley, Alex, and Claire use their heightened emotional powers to force the trapeze man to let Phil try it out. Phil assumes this is their apology to him, but he was too afraid to ask.

Best/Funniest Moments

• Mitchell distracting Cam as he drives away.
• Phil opening the door to the bathroom to find Luke covered in blood, even though he was only supposed to spill a little on his finger and then Haley and Alex freaking out over it.
• Claire, Haley, and Alex yelling at the Trapeze artist.

Kristen is a confused young adult who sometimes thinks TV shows are actually her life. Wouldn’t that be cool?
